Today Brandon LaFell chose to serve the Houston Community in a big way. Samaritan’s Feet International is a 501 (c)(3) organization that shares a message of hope and love through washing the feet of impoverished children around the world and adorning them with new shoes. The Final Four is in Downtown Houston and Brandon served with Manny and Samaritan’s Feet this afternoon as a part of the kickoff for the weekend.
Samaritan’s Feet International has planned on serving 2,016 individuals with a new pair of shoes and socks through two events in the Houston, TX area. An estimated 35% of children in Houston live in poverty, or about 194,000 children (National Kids Count, 2014).
During one of the two shoe distribution events, Brandon LaFell along with community volunteers and various coaches washed the feet of the individuals being served today, place new shoes and socks on their feet, and give them a word of encouragement.
Brandon was first introduced to Samaritan’s Feet while playing in Charlotte through old teammate and really good friend Steve Smith. Since that first event “anytime Manny calls and I can make it during the off season I will be there” said Brandon. Today was an awesome opportunity to team up with Manny and Samaritan’s Feet and an even better day to serve.
